Auto body repair & detailing: COBALT REAR BUMPER COVER, chevy cobalt, splash shield

Question
Hi, Could you please tell me how to change the rear bumper cover on a 2008 Chevy Cobalt?

Answer
Hi Mark!...First off, you will possibly need to remove the tail lights, as they some times hide a bumper mounting clip or 2 under them...You might have to remove the interior 1/4 trim panels to access the tail light bolts as well, unless the light bolts are accessable without removing the trim panel...These will be either 8 or 10 mm.... Remove one of the lights first, to see if there are in fact a mounting clip under it..If so, remove the exsisting light...If not, you can re-install the removed light...Next, remove the bumper mounting clips on the underside as needed...Check the top side also for clips...These should be all visible...Remove them as needed as well...Last of all, you will need to remove the splash shield retainers where the shield attatches the the edge of the cover at the wheel opening...Once this is done, there should be a screw/bolt run up vertically into the 1/4 panel on the leading edge...Remove this as well...Once this has been completed, the bumper should slide off....Re-install in the exact opposite order of removal....As vehicle constructions, and designs change rapidly from year to year, and model to model, even with mid-year changes, these are the general guidlines for removal...If you have any problems, or other questions, please drop me another line..Thanks.....Dave
