Auto body repair & detailing: passenger side window off track, channel rails, glass channel

Question
QUESTION: The electric passenger window glass tilts "forward" when lifted by the scissor until the force is so much that the lifting rollers pop out of the scissor mechanism and the glass falls. I removed the panel, popped the scissor in again, lubricated the rubber seals, but soon after it happen again. I don't know what else to do. Is there some adjustment I can make? This is a SAAB 9-5 but the electric lift is virtually identical to that on other GM cars I've seen. Why is it tilting forward? On the driver's side it goes up smoothly on the tracks.

ANSWER: Hi Ever!...Generally in a lot of cases the cause for the glass to tilt forward, is that the front glass channel is either pinched, bent, or has some type of obstruction...The front edge of the glass stops, and the rear edge contines upward, resulting in the tilt...The exact opposite would happen if the rear glass channel was the problem...Tilt would be to the rear...My advice is to first disconnect the window regulator from the glass completely...Next, with the door glass in place, use you hands and manually slide the glass up and down in its tracks...This way you should be able to " Feel " any type of binding...Repair this as necessary...If there is no binding, check the regulator and see if there is excessive amounts of play, the arms are not bent, and make sure the rollers are not damaged from popping out of the window lift channel...( The horizontal channel attatched to the bottom edge of the glass )...Replace this if needed...When re-installing the regulator, make sure the window lift channel rails are not spread apart from the rollers popping out as well... Repair this as necessary also...One last thing, is to see if there is any adjustment where the regulator mounts to the door shell...If so, you want to rotate the regulator mounts Clockwise...Following these steps should solve your problem, as the problem could be any combination of the above....Hope this helps...Thanks....Dave

QUESTION: Thanks to you I was able to put it back together. You were right, there is a regulator bolt on a slot, which I now rotated clockwise. That helps, but on the 2002 SAAB 9-5 the regulator arms and the door panel are flimsy so the whole thing twist like a twig when moving up and down. It is working now but I suspect is because it isn't cold, so the rubber seals and the silicone grease I put earlier are not so stiff. WHAT lubrication should I use?

Answer
Hi Again Ever!...I know this is a pain to do, but what I recommend, is to clean out the glass run completely...( The seal that surrounds the glass )...Therefore getting rid of all contaminents...CRC makes a product called " Brake Clean "...This is what I use...Just spray it on to wash out the debris, and wipe it dry...After that is done, I would then recommend to use a penetrating oil/spray to re-lubricate the glass run....CRC also has one....Do not use any type of grease, as this will attract dirt and contain it....It will also thicken up in cold weather...Penetrating oils are far more less to attract dirt, and being thinner than grease, do not contain dirt as easily....One last option, only as a last resort...Is to elongate the holes in the door shell where the regulator mounts...Therefore giving you more adjustment to rotate the assembly Clockwise even more...You can use a die grinder to do this, if one is not available, you can simply use a file....Let me know how you made out...Thanks....Dave
