Auto body repair & detailing: paint scratch repairs, scratch repairs, paint scratch

Question
Hello Michael,

I have recently bought a used 2007 Rav4 with several scratches, some that I can feel with my nails. I have watched several videos which show repair methods using a combination of wet sanding, rubbing  and polishing compounds followed by an application of wax to seal the paint. I would prefer finding an alternative to the use of buffer since not only do I not have one but I also have no experience using one. The simpler the better
What would your suggestion be?
Can you give me some idea of a good make & grade of rubbing & polishing compounds to use.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

Regards
Richard

Answer
RICH....IF YOU CAN FEEL THE SCRATCH WITH A FINGERNAIL THEN IT IS GONE INTO THE CLEAR COAT.
THIS CAN NOT BE BUFFED OUT. A BUFFER MAY REMOVE SOME OF THE SCRATCH BUT NOT ALL.

I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU FIND A DETAIL SHOP FIR ST AND THEN SEE WHAT THE RESULTS ARE.
