Auto body repair & detailing: Body Replacement, rubber grommets, vacuum booster

Question
I just purchased a damaged 03 ford ranger with very low miles, my question is. How difficult is it to remove and replace the cab an bed..Is this something i can do in my garage or only something that should be done by a shop?

Answer
Hello Mike.
I'm sorry It has taken this long to get back to you on your question.I had started to send you
a reply earlier but was distracted and called away. My apologies, and thank you for your
patience.
Yes. This is something a handy type guy with a little mechanical ability could do,and in a
garage providing enough space.
Both the cab and bed are simply bolted to the Rangers frame, with heavy rubber grommets in
between.
Once all the bolts are removed you will have to make a careful inspection of all wire harness
connectors, body to frame ground wires. Fuel tank filler tubes, and connections.
On the fire wall you will have to disconnect a variety of vacuum lines that operate your a/c
and heater vents. A/C lines (2 aluminum)heater core lines (2 rubber hoses).Windshield washer
lines and a few junction blocks for you main electrical. Most are color coded.
Shift linkage's , steering column, Power brake vacuum booster and brake unit, etc.
If you decide you will do this your self. Sandwich bag and mark/label all your hardware and
tag and / or mark all the hoses and vac lines as you go.this is a must and will save you time/
temper. The Ford Ranger is a great little truck the frame running gear etc. are not unlike the
Explorer. I own two of them.

I hope this helps you some Mike. Best of Luck, Bill
