Steering Column Repair: Steering Column caught on fire, turn signal switch, tilt steering

Question
My steering column caught on fire I had replaced a blinker fuse prior. It's a 1991 Chevy truck 1500 it's a standard or manual transmission tilt steering column and all that melted is the plastic sleeve underneath the horn in the steering wheel it self the wires going from it look fine do I have to replace the whole steering column of can i just get parts that I need?

Answer

turn signal switch
Hi Kim:
Sorry about your problem.  If this was my vehicle, I would replace the turn signal switch (picture enclosed) and the horn cam (that melted), that's all.  I would check the harness to make sure it wasn't pinched and then make sure that all of the fuses are in place and no one has put aluminum foil where a fuse should go.

Good luck
Doug
