Auto body repair & detailing: New vehicle body repair quality, rust paint, factory paint

Question
My new (1 week old) 2010 F150 truck passenger door and (underdoor part) got damaged from slipping off of the car lift while the shop was applying rustproofing. The nurf step bar seem to have taken most of the damage but there is a 2 inch long x 1/4 inch deep gash on the bottom door and the door panel also seems to have pushed in as if I had kicked the door. Both service and autobody managers have committed to repair the damage however based on my previous experience with professional repaired/painted cars in the past, the repaired parts always seem to sooner or later (5 + years) have problems with either rust, paint chipping, color fade  etc.... I expressed those quality concerns and they assure me that painting technologies have improved a lot in the past 5 years and will not be a problem.
My question to you is should I insist on a new door all together or is a truly professional repair job can be just as good as they claim. ?

Should I insist that they repaint the entire door as opposed to blending the door bottom with the top as they mentioned they might do?

Thank you in advance

Answer
Mike, don't make a mountain out of a molehill. This is a superficial dent. Insist on a complete new door? New doors don't come painted- so, you are actually farther behind if you are worried about paint quality. Plus, they will have to blend out the fender and cab corner to match. Paint is like everything else- it does't last forever, and the quality of the application really depends upon the person applying it, as well as other factors such as shop conditions, humidity, etc. All these things can conspire to shorten the life span of new paint. You are correct, the new paint won't last as long as the factory paint- the truckwas painted in a multi- million dollar spray facility under controlled, ideal conditions. a body shop really can't duplicate that every time. Sometimes, yes- every time? heck no. have them just paint the lower portion of the door. Bill
