Auto body repair & detailing: bondo vs replacement parts, kia sedona, 2004 kia sedona

Question
Hi!Michael

I drive a 2004 Kia Sedona mini van. While I was Pulling out of my underground garage I scrapped the passenger side sliding door, from about half the door till a little bit over the rear wheel well.I can replace the door skin and bondo the wheel well for $1500 or I can bondo everything for $600.I want to replace the skin and pay the extra money, the wife on the other hand would like the bondo and save.Isn't replacement far superior to bondo? What would you do? pros vs cons?

                                         thanks Alex

Answer
Alex..... If the estimate was written to replace the door skin it is usually not wise to repair.
If you are going to keep the vehicle I would skin the door and repair the wheelhouse.

2nd option.....Take the vehicle to the shop that you want to do the repairs and ask them if they can save the door and how much would they charge.

Anything can be straightened for the right amount of money....the technicians normally have more work than they can handle so they opt for the skin vs repair because the repairs would take all day
and the skin can be done in a few hours which frees the tech up to do more work.
