Auto body repair & detailing: Spoiler Clear Coat 2001 Mustang, clear-coat, clear coat

Question
Auto body repair & detailing: Spoiler Clear Coat 2001 Mustang, clear-coat, clear coat
2001 Mustang Spoiler
Hello

I was wondering if you could let me know if it’s possible to fix the clear coat issue that I’m having with the spoiler on my 2001 Ford Mustang.

If you could please take a look at the photos that are attached to this email!

The paint is fine but the clear coat is bubbling?

So far, mostly what I have read on the net has suggested using a light wet sand paper and then re-applying the clear coat?  If the photos that I have attached show that this may work could please share any advice on the best course of action.

Myself I do have several sanders.  However, I have only used them for wood.  Is there a type that you would recommend?  Also, also what type of sanding motion would you suggest, circular or back & forth?

The one area that I’m lacking is a paint gun?  However I did find a web site that had clear coat in a spray can?

Thanks for all your help I hope to here from you soon.

Sincerely,

KJ

Answer
Hi KJ,

It appears that whoever painted the part originally didn't get enough clear-coat on. To fix it you will need to wet sand by hand with 600 grit. (Soak the paper for a minimum of 15 minutes before you begin to sand). I really recommend that you get some paint that matches you car because when you begin to sand you will most likely break through the color and it will need to be re-painted anyways. You can get everything you need from this website: http://www.repaintsupply.com/ They can build an aerosol can that matches the color code from your car. Also, I really recommend using the SprayMax brand clear coat. It will spray on and look fantastic. Good Luck!
