Auto body repair & detailing: Welding, neutral flame, flashback arrestors

Question
Hi Kim Smith. A little embarrassed to ask,but I used to do some minor welding / brazing years ago. With OXY/ACETYLENE I was told keep either the oxygen or acetylene regulator set a little higher than the other to prevent blow-back. Not having flashback arrestors on the torch.Would you please help me out. I appreciate any comments or tips. Thank you, Larry

Answer
Hi Larry, What you need to do is establish a neutral flame to prevent blowback,,,,Set the regulators back so that no gas is emitted when you open the bottle valves. openbottle valves and the torch full open then open the acetylene on the regultor a 1/2 turn and light the torch adjust the regulator until the flame is just out of smoke, then adjust the oxygen from the regulator until you achieve a neutral flame..You will find that this flame will also prevent alot of the popping blowing out when you are welding or brazing....I hope this info helps out ,,Pleaselet me know how you make out.......All the best to you .......Kim
