Auto body repair & detailing: auto body repair, auto body repairs, frame straightener

Question
Hi, I just got my 2005 cavalier back from shop. They put it on frame straightener because I was hit in the corner of the back bumper and back end was bent.  The back bumper was also torn off and signal light was smashed.  So they straightened frame, hammered trunk floor flat, painted and put on new bumper.  Put on new signal/brake light, after first painting around light socket.  Took them one week.  For all this, I had to pay 4000 cash.  Does this sound reasonable to you?  Thanks.  The reason I ask is because I did not shop around for other quotes.  Also this was my first accident in my life, and I am 50 years old, not a bad record, so have no experience with auto body repairs. Thanks again.

Answer
Hi Terry,

It does seem a bit high from what you describe. However, it really depends on how much painting they had to do.  Most shops will blend color but they spray the clear-coat to a breaking point. For example, if the quarter panel was damaged it's possible the shop clear-coated the repaired quarter, the roof, and the opposite quarter panel. Unless there happens to be a factory seam where the roof attaches to the rear quarter this would've been done by any body shop. Thus driving the price up.
