Auto body repair & detailing: 2003 Mustang Mach 1 Azure Blue, color blending, perfect paint match

Question
My Mach 1 was invloved in an accident. They need to replace the Driver rear qtr panel and bumper. I am concerned about the color. They want to paint those two items and blen the color into the rest of the car. My question if the color is a perfect match then why do they need to blend the color??
I have a very collectible car and I don't want it to be two toned a few yesrs down the road. Would it be best to repaint the entire car?

Answer
Hi Fred,

Unfortunately in this day and age there is no such thing as a perfect color match. If you go to color match training for any major paint manufacturer they will tell you "The perfect paint match is just a blend away". I believe the actual question in your mind is: Can blending the color on my car be an acceptable and durable method of repair? The answer to that question lie with the body shop you are putting your trust in. In this industry I see paint that is blended on everything. Boats, cars, trucks, just to name a few. I have seen bad blends and I have seen blends that were totally invisible. (Actually, I was told by the painter where he blended :) In my opinion, If the painter is worth his salt let him do his job and you should not be able to tell where the blend was done. If the shop uses high quality named brand material it should be a durable repair that will last for years to come.
