Auto body repair & detailing: frame repair, frame damage, sad world

Question
my car was hit from behind in auto accident - frame was bent. repair shop claim they are certified.  I thought the person repairing the frame had to be certified.  when I asked for the person's certification, i was told that the shop was certified.  what is the requirement to repair frame damage.  i thought the car should have been totaled

Answer
Hi Dallas,

To my knowledge there is no enforcement by the government or anyone else that demands that a person be certified. Many times you will see shops that are ASE certified or I-Car certified but basically that just means that someone went to a training class and got the certificate. Not necessarily the person doing the work. Quiet honestly, I have seen people that had many certificates that I would not want working on my car.

Some times certain Insurance Companies will "police" the shops that are "Direct Repair" with them, but unfortunately price will usually change the policing of the Ins. Comp. It's truly a sad world we live in.

My best advice is go with a shop that has a good reputation and has been in business for several years. You might even check with your insurance agent and ask him where he would take his vehicle. I hope this helps.
