Auto body repair & detailing: paint, clear lacquer, paint refinishing

Question
QUESTION: hi mike can you tell me is it possible to wet sand a metallic paint to get rid of pin holes and also to feather edge after detailing without repainting, before applying my clear lacquer.

ANSWER:  Are you using spray cans? If you are, you are only going to get what you get. Some pin holes (fish eye), can be wet sanded out, most can not. They are caused by contaminants that are trapped under your paint. You need to take it back down and start over.
I don't use spray cans so I don't exactly know what you have.

QUESTION: Thanks mike, the detail work that i did was sprayed with a can so you were right about that.
I did try flatting with 1200's wet but it still burned through so yeah I've had to start again.
But you only learn by your mistakes i guess.
I'm currently studying a level three qualification in body and paint refinishing and I'm finding it hard to find a job in the industry to get the experience i need.
I only attend college for a few hours per week and booth time is limited.
Have you any suggestions on finding a way into the industry?
I worked on a car production line in Holland for a few years and this got me interested in learning to paint.
But i think my age could be a problem now as I'm almost 40 years old.

Answer
I started cleaning up in a body shop back in 1970, then as a paint prep helper. It takes quite a while to make any real money in this business, experience is what it takes and it's hard to get any one to trust you with a nice vehicle and expensive materials.
You might look into a vo-ed center also.
