Auto body repair & detailing: auto body repair, salvage yard, auto body repair

Question
2003 Extera   front drivers side damage  repair shop said there was 6,300 damage  we have full coverage Nationwide Insurance. What I want to know is when does one know weather they should use refurbished parts etc. The body shop mentioned this. For some reason it didn't make sense to me. But of course I don't know anything about autobody repair

Answer
Insurance companies differ from one to another one LKQ (like new quality) parts or after market parts. I would rather have a used LKQ part than an after market part because it came off a car that it fit on properly. Usually, the used part will cost more then the new after market part will. All that said, most companies look for alternative parts after the car is one year old. The older the car, the more they consider alternative parts. There is usually nothing wrong with used, refurbished, LKQ, or whatever you want to call a used part. Body parts do not usually wear out like motor parts, they just get rusty. The salvage yard has to announce any damage that used part may have so you should be getting something like new.
Also, the shop and the ins. co. should guarantee the work for as long as you own the car
