Auto body repair & detailing: HOOD LATCH, hood latch, buick century

Question
QUESTION: I HAVE A 1996 BUICK CENTURY AND THE DARN HOOD KEPT POPPING UP EVERY TIME I HIT A ROAD BUMP. I ADJUSTED THE HOOD LATCH FORWARD AND IT STOPPED POPPING UP. NOW MY HOOD IS TOO TIGHT AND IT WON'T OPEN. PLEASE HELP. (RELEASE CABLE IS O.K.)

ANSWER:  Has the been wrecked? Sounds like the latch is bent or worn. Readjust the latch and lubricate it well. It might be sticking.

QUESTION: NO, IT HASN'T BEEN WRECKED. I MOVED THE SLOTTED ADJUSTMENT PLATE ALL THE WAY FORWARD SO THE LATCH WOULD HOLD.(ABOUT 1") CAN'T GET THE HOOD UP TO ADJUST IT BACK OR LUBRICATE. OPENINGS IN THE GRILL ARE VERY NARROW TO TRY TO PUSH UP ON RELEASE CATCH. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Answer
The only alternative is to go up underneath to try and release it. If you have to slam a hood or door to close, it needs better adjustment. If the will not open, you may have to take it to a shop. Without seeing the car, it's hard to diagnose. Whenever a hood or any hinged panel gets stuck, it's a problem. Have someone pull the release try to light pry the hood up while the release is being pulled.
