Auto body repair & detailing: Dent in box, integerity, side pannel

I just bought a bran new 07 Silverado short box reg cab, and I put a dent in the drivers side pannel. The dent is located at the very back between the tire and the bumper. The dent goes from the top of the box to the bottom. I have been told to get a whole new pannel...then I talked to a guy today that I was recommended to and he said it would be better just to fix the dent than to brake all the welds and put a new one on.  He says the dent is definitally fixable. So now I'm at the delema of wheather to replace the pannel...or fix the dent.....any suggestions?  THANKS!!!

Hi Rebecca! Without seeing the actual damage, it would be hard for me to make an accurate estimate. If the person you have been recommended to has autobody experience and says the panel can be repaired, this would probably be the best bet. They are correct in not disturbing the factory welds as long as it is repairable. Box side panels should be replaced by a qualified technician. This way, proper replacement techniques should be followed as far as structural integerity and corrosion repair. As far as repair, the panel should by brought out to 1/8 inch of original shape. Then proper filling techniques occur. Hope this helps! Thanks, Dave.
