Auto body repair & detailing: 1998 pontiac firebird driver door, pontiac firebird, costly repair

Question
My driver's side door doesn't shut well (been told it sags) Just had to replace latch/electronic component after one place repeatedly slammed door to try to shut and inserted 12" screwdriver into panel!  Now, have to lift carefully to shut.  They tell me it's fiberglass, is cracked (never been in accident) and needs replacing; that new hinges won't work-What is this door made of? Fiberglass or metal? Will it need replacing or realignment?

Answer
The door is a fiberglass composite. If the inner part of the door is damaged it is considered a structural component and would need to be replaced if damaged.New hinges are probably in order along with a door if it is stress cracked, but I would get a second opinion on the new door. This would be a costly repair and might be more than the car is worth. There are no quick fixes that I could suggest unfortunatly, but please have someone physically show you where the cracks are.If they are in the hinge area or the latch area then you need a new door.
