Auto body repair & detailing: Primer and paint, epoxy sealer, model a ford

Question
Hi Brandon,  I have some painting questions.  My hobby is working on my old Model A Ford.  I am at the point of doing body work.  I find myself stripping down a fender for repair but I may not finish the job for several week or more.  What should I spray on the fender to hold down the rust till I can finish the repairs? I have heard about pickleX.  I will need to pick a primer soon, but I have heard that primer is no defense against rust.  What would you recommend?  I have not decided on a type of paint or top coating for my project.  I have plenty of practice metal to work on.  Thanks for your thoughts, Bill

Answer
Bill,
good for you taking on a old project, Yes it is bad for bare metal to sit, I suggest an epoxy sealer that goes on very thin and only requires on coat. If you have a NAPA by you, go in and buy a quart of their grey Crossfire sealer. it is like 15.00 and will do great. Simply reduce with a non reactive reducer and spray on. Good luck.
