Auto body repair & detailing: Headlamp outage on a 2000 Chevy Blazer, chevy s10 blazer, s10 blazer

Question
Hello Mark,

I don't know if you can help me but I will give it a shot.

The other day, I got in my 2000 Chevy S10 Blazer and noticed by lowbeams don't come on.  I double checked my dome override switch, which you can ususally hit a few times to turn the light on and off.  This was not the problem.  I then checked all my fuses and even checked the headlamp relays.  All fuses were good and I was able to swap out the rear defrost glass relay foor the headlamp relay to see if that was the problem (they are the same relay numbers).

That still did not solve the problem.  I also checked my bulbs, but they are both good (and it wouldn't make sense why both bulbs would go out at the same time).

The only other option I can think of is to tear into the steering column and check the switch that is attached to the turn signal lever (you use this lever to pull towards you to switch between low and high beams).

At this point is am stuck driving with only high beams and don't know what to do.

Do you have any suggestions?  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Answer
Mike-

I am not well suited to answer this question, however I have been involved with a ton of GM cars and trucks. The only thing I can add... Is this a daytime running lamp equipped Blazer? If so- are there any other components involved in the operation of that feature that may be suspect? Electrical is always tricky on these newer generation vehicles, even for someone that seems to have a keen eye for such diagnosis. Good Luck- Mark
