I got another coat of paint on truck, got a few areas where the paint pulled away from primer, had one area where it was primed , it was really smooth and paint rolled right off as soon as I put it on ,could that be that it wasn't sanded with coarse enough paper?I used 600 grit wet and 400 on some of the areas where I had runs.I also wiped everything down using wax ,dirt and grease remover. That seemed to make paint pull away. The bumpers I wiped outside of bumper ,but not inside.Paint went on inside fine but outside paint pulled away from freshly primed and sanded bumper. What could it be?parts that weren't wiped down seemed okay.Any others that I wiped down, I have since sanded them again, hope they will be fine

Hello! I dont follow you on what you mean by pulled away. Do you mean the old paint wrinkled up, or peeled off? Or do you mean that the paint isn't "hanging on" and seems to want to run right off of the panels? That would be paint that is way over thinned. Enamel is typically reduced 50%, sometimes 75%, but never more. Cheaper varieties are only reduced 25%. Proper reduction should be on the can. The inside of the bumper is probably pretty rough with previous overspray, that will let the paint hang better. 320 or 400 grit is recomended sandpaper for acrylic enamel. What temperature reducer are you using? IF you are using stuff for 90 degree weather, and it's only 75 degrees, that will cause hang problems, too. Remember, the first coat is only a tacky coat. Shine is not the goal on the first coat. It should be sprayed quickly, and even a little grainy. It will help give the next coats a tooth. Hope this helps, please describe the problem more clearly if I have guessed wrong on the rolling off term you used. Bill

the paint isn't hanging on ,just found i was given wrong directions for mixing ,I was mixing 4 parts paint 2 parts reducer (medium reducer)and 1 part hardener , then was told when I ordered more paint , it should have been 8 parts paint 4 parts reducer and 1 part hardener , they said there is no way it would stick the way I mixed....didn't have a clue , just did what they said the first time . Now I have a finish that is really hard to sand off as I now have like a spider web type finish , I pretty much have to use 220 grit to remove it

I think you really need to find a buddy, or someone more famaliar with painting than you are, to physically LOOK at what is going on. I can't see the problem out here in cyber space, and I can't be there to hold the gun for you. I feel I have exhausted all the resources I have available for you. Perhaps another expert can inject something into this that I may have overlooked, or have a different perspective. My only other suggestion I have for you is to do more research on how to paint, and maybe even give this vehicle a 30 day break before trying to do more painting. i fear you may start running into paint lifting and crazing if you continue in the way that you are going. Good luck to you. Bill
