Auto body repair & detailing: 99 Buick Park Ave front bumper cover..., buick park ave, fender bender

Question
Hi,
My PA had a small front end collision @10-15mph on the left front corner. It broke the light and crumpled part of the hood along with various cracks and scrapes along that area. Unfortunately after the insurance added things up, it was deemed a total loss. Now I know the range that phrase can mean. This car is prime and barely scathed by the fender bender and we are keeping it till the day it dies, which will be a long time because it runs and looks beautiful. My question is what can I use to patch the various cracks in the bumper cover? I'm not sure if I should use silicone or something of that nature. I did purchase a can of paint to match by VIN# so whatever I use to seal the cracks will be covered up anyway. Any ideas you have would be welcome. Thank you.

Answer
If the cracks are just in the paint just sand it smooth and prime than paint. If the cracks are cracked all the way through the bumper than you need to use 3M plastic repair adhesive available at Napa or Carquest type stores. You will need to prep the area on both sides of the cracks by grinding than use 3M solvent cleaner and than 3M adhesive promoter a must to make it stick. Also right at the crack you must v it out make a v groove with the crack being in the middle. After you have  the adhesive spread out let dry for a least 12 hours than sand smooth on the out side. It is best to do one side at a time use tape on the opposite side to hold it together than remove tape when dry and do the other side. This is alot of work you may want to try and find a used bumper if you look hard enough you can find the right color.
