Auto body repair & detailing: Headlamp replacement / beam adjustment, gmc product, adjustment screws

Question
Hello !!  Ken,

I had to replace the headlight bulb on my 05 Blazer LS 2 dr. 2 wheel dr.
I try to do things for myself whenever i can. Before i figured out the
right way to get the headlight out i ended up fiddling with the two
screws that i thought were the screws for removal.
Unfortunately they were the adjustment screws for aiming the
headlight in the proper direction.
Now i am having great difficulty in getting the headlight aimed
properly.
The Blazer is a GMC product so i figured you might be able to offer
some help with how to adjust the screws. As near as i can tell there are
only two screws for this. I have tried in vain to try to match the
direction the same way as the the other one. I either make it too high,
too low, too far to the right or left.

How in hell do the proffesionals do it. I spent over an hour and it is still
not right. I feel embarrased to take it to an auto repair shop for
adjustment, not to mention the cost. Is this something that takes time
or is there a trick to it.

I was thinking that as a body repair man that you have encountered
this problem of adjusting headlight beams when replacing headlights
caused from collision. I hope you can offer some help.
Is there a trick to it or does it really take that much time too get it
right.
Right now the passenger side headlight is fine {still adjusted from the
factory}
BUT, my screw up with the driver side headlight has it aiming down
about 6 inches differently from the factory adjusted one.  At least it
wont be hitting oncoming drivers in the face.

You may be laughing at my predictament and may even feel like this
question is not worthy of your expertise. Believe me, any advice is
appreciated !!!!
It just seems like their should be an easier way.

Thanks !!
Ron

Answer
What you need to do is pull the car about ten or twelve feet away from your garage door as straight as you can. Keep your front wheels straight as well. Then go back at the two screws you fiddled with watch witch direction your moving the head light with each screw. Now just make it the same as the other one. You can use any wall or flat surface you just need level ground to park your car on. Also I am not laughing at you I am laughing with you! Ha Ha!
Hope this helps thanks for the question.
