Auto body repair & detailing: Plastic body part repair, rubber bumpers, minor scratch

Question
Hi Dave,

I have a 1996 BMWti.  The other day I hit a curb, which left a large scratch on the side of the front plastic bumper.  The scratch is about 1.5 inches wide by about 6 inches long.  What is the best method of filling in and painting the scratch?

Thank you,  Mike

Answer
  hi mike,
these bumpers can be fixed basicly the same way the rest of the body is fixed. if the scratch is not too deep it can be sanded and filled with a finishing putty , sanded and primed and painted. if it is deep they make a special filler for repairing rubber bumpers or sometimes just a regular body filler can be used if it is just a minor scratch. the painting is the same way just sand and prep it the same as the rest of the body. i hope this will help you out. thanks for writing.
