Auto Glass: 2002 Toyota Highlander Rear Window, toyota highlander, bottom of the glass

Question
QUESTION: Hi Ben, I've read through your answers to some other power window probelems on toyotas and have been able to do a little work on my rear passenger door window which had stopped working.

I removed the inner door panel and can see that the mechanical arm has become disconnected from the metal guides/bracket at the bottom of the window.

I'm not sure how to re-attach the little blue square at the end of the mechanical arm into the metal bracket at the bottom of the window.  Is the easiest way to unscrew the 4 nuts of the motor and just stick it back on there?  And then screw the window motor back on?

Seems like there should be an easier way?

Thnanks for any help.

ANSWER: Hi John B,

I don't see this problem very often, but I have seen it often enough to know that the metal channel on the bottom of the glass has moved from its original position.  This is why the guide at the end of the regulator arm is no longer in the channel.

To solve this problem you will need to move the channel on the bottom of the glass back into its intended location.  You may be able to determine the location by looking at the marks left on the bottom of the glass.  If there are no marks on the glass, operate the window regulator and notice the position of the guide at the end of the regulator arm as it nears the bottom of the door.  Re-locate the channel so that the guide on the end of the regulator arm will not fall out of the channel when it reaches that low position.  Whichever method you chose to determine the proper location for the channel, be sure to add a bit of adhesive to the glass near the end of the channel as you slide it into its final position.

As for re-installing the guide at the end of the regulator arm into the channel, your approach of loosening the regulator attachment bolts will work just fine.  You can also take the glass out of the vertical run channels but that might actually be more difficult for an inexperienced person than removing and re-installing the regulator bolts.

Feel free to send a follow up question if you need anything else.

QUESTION: thanks for your help.  that rubber mat at the bottom of the window seemed like it had slid, but there was no way I could coax it to move at all.  I wound up just unscrewing the 4 pins of the lift motor and positioning the track back on that way.  Goes up and down ok, hope it works for a while.

Now that I'm able to take the door panel off, sure looks easy to install new speakers.....

Answer
Hi Again John,

You will have a better chance of keeping the regulator guide in the run channel if you don't roll the window all the way down.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

PS thanks for the positive feedback
