Auto Glass: 2004 Sebring Convertible - Rear Window Regulator, style window, window regulator

Question
The passenger side rear window has slid down and does not respond to the switch on the door panel. I can literally lift the window up and put it down with my hands. How do you fix this?

Answer
Hello Orie,

The mechanism that moves the window up and down is called a "window regulator."  In the case of your Sebring, it is a "cable style" window regulator.  The reason the window regulator will not move the glass but you can move the glass with your hands is due to a failure of the cable portion of the mechanism.  To get a better idea of what the mechanism looks like go to EBAY and search the term "2004 Sebring rear window regulator."

This mechanism cannot be repaired in the field.  It must be replaced with a new, re-built or used regulator.  This is definitely not a job for someone without significant experience working on power windows.

The repair will not be inexpensive.  Depending on whether you use a re-built or used part the cost will probably be in the range of $275 to $350.  Installing a new regulator from Chrysler will bring the cost to well over $500.

Feel free to send a follow up question if I can help in any other way.
