Auto Glass: Rear passenger power window, Explorer, 2002 - 2006

Question
The rear passenger window on my 2002 Ford Explorer will not work with the motor. It falls down but I can pull it up with my hands. I expect I need a new motor. Would you know which other model years of Explorers use the same motor?

Answer
Hello Bev,

The window motor in the passenger rear door of your Explorer (2002 to 2006) is not broken.  The mechanism ("window regulator") that the motor moves has failed.  It cannot be repaired.  It must be replaced.  To the best of my knowledge, Ford is the only source for this part.  To make matters even worse, this is not a simple repair and requires some specialize tools.  Not knowing what part of the country you are located in, I can't say for sure what you might have to pay, but I think you can expect a total bill of $260 to $300 for parts, labor and taxes.

Sorry to be bring you such bad news.

Please send me a follow up question if I can help in any other way.
