Auto Glass: Have same Highlander window problem as 03/26/10, phillips screw, quarter glass

Question
QUESTION: Have same Highlander window problem as 03/26/10

How do I loosen and move the window lift channel towards back of glass?

Both Highlander back windows have come out of the lift channel

Thank you

D

ANSWER: Hi D,

In some versions of the Highlander this repair is a much more difficult.  You must remove the rear run channel and the rear quarter glass assembly.  This is not a simple process for someone without experience, but if you decide to give it a try, here is a rough outline of the steps you will need to follow.

1.  Lower the glass to the bottom of the door.

2.  Remove the phillips screw under the rubber door seal at the top of the door frame just above the top of the rear run channel.

3.  Remove any 10MM bolts that secure the rear run channel/quarter glass to the door.

4.  Tilt the quarter glass toward the front and away from the door and pull the entire assembly up and out of the door.  The rubber run channel must be remove from the assembly to allow the removal.  Pay close attention to how the rubber run channel is installed in the assembly channel.  There is no margin for error when it goes back in.

5.  With the quarter glass/rear run channel assembly out of the way you can now reposition the lift channel on the glass and put the glass back on the regulator.

6.  The last step is to slide the quarter glass/rear run channel assembly back into the door and reposition everything.  It is much easier to accomplish this if you have lubricated everything with spray silicone.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

QUESTION: Still missing it - lift channel is attached to the bottom of rear passenger door window glass - correct?

How do I slide the run channel towards the front of the glass?  Are there bolts to loosen?  Is it pressure fitted?  Glued?  Etc?

Thank you again,
D

Answer
Hello Again D,

The lift channel is pressure fitted to the glass using a rubber gasket/insulator.  There is no glue used to secure the gasket to the glass or the lift channel to the gasket. No bolts are used to secure the lift channel to the glass.

You can move the lift channel left or right on the gasket by pushing on the edge at the end of the channel.  You will need some sort of a pry bar to act as a lever.  You will probably have to experiment a bit to determine how far up or down in the door the glass should be in order to get it into the best position to move the run channel.

Let me know if there is anything else you need help with.
