Land Rover Repair: land rover transmission, performance thanks, filter screen

Hi John,
I have a 1999 land rover , I love my rover, I can usually figure out most issues with it but I  have a couple questions about my cars tranny that I cant seem to pin down. one is that sometime when i start the car in the morning it has to warm up before i am able to shift it out of park ,especially if its really cold out. And the other is that when driving it seems like the transmission is held back or not shifting and runs over 200 rpm on the tach.but runs fine other than that and recently the check engine light has come on but didn't notice any other changes in performance. thanks for any help you can give.

Both those symptoms could point to a partly clogged filter screen, and dirty fluid.  That's the first place I'd look.  After that you are into internal transmission problems, and a rebuild, which gets costly fast.  Start with the fluid and filter and let me know what happens
