Auto Glass: 2002 Pontiac Grand Am broken window regulator, paint scraper, razor blade

Question
I noticed your Q & A regarding a common problem with the plastic pieces on the window regulator breaking as well as the "sash" that adhears to the window...any suggestions as to how to get the broken sash off of the window without breaking the window, it's stuck pretty good. Also, what type of weatherproof adhesive to use when applying the new one to the window.

Answer
Hi Apryl,

I use a very stiff paint scraper with a two inch blade that I have sharpened to a fine edge.  Even with this tool it takes considerable effort and patience to remove most sashes.

This process only works with the glass removed from the door.  It is best if you have the glass on a work bench covered with a soft surface to avoid scratching the glass.

I also recommend that you use a razor blade and sandpaper to clean up what adhesive is left after using the scraper.

Lastly, be sure to mark the EXACT location of the existing sash so you can put the replacement in the same spot.

I use a two part epoxy to secure the new sash.  I am sure you can find something at your local auto parts store that will be compatible with plastic and glass.

Feel free to follow up if you have any other questions.
