Auto Glass: Passenger side mirror of a GMC Yukon, Heated Mirror, Mirrors

Question
I broke the passenger side mirror of a 2000 GMC Yukon Denali, I just broke the glass. I called the dealer and the replacement mirror was $550 because it was heated and electrical. I am wondering if I can just replace the glass not the entire electrical mount? When I shattered the mirror it leaked fluid which I am guessing was for the heater. If I have to replace the entire thing where would be a better place to look besides the dealer?

Thanks for the help,

Eric

Answer
Hi Eric,

I have Good news! Your heated mirror has 2 layers of clear 1/16 float glass on top of the mirrored glass. Once the clear float glass cracks it only looks like the mirror is totally broken. So if only one of the clear layers is cracked you can cut it completely off and still have the other clear layer left to protect your heating element and the mirrored glass and it will still work just fine. Call a Pro to see if this is the case.

If you cracked it all the way down to the mirror glass you must have a replacement mirror installed either on top of your broken one with a (Redi Cut Brand) or similar for about 35-50.00 online ( no heat needed, your heating element is still used, do it yourself ). or have a heated mirror ordered from a glass shop and have them fit whole heated mirror as a replacement 65-95.00

Now the Bad news! To have the mirror totally replaced frame and all with color to match will be Big Bucks. Or you can try the junk yards, or Ebay. We do sell the mirror only for 35.00 if you need it.  Just understand that time is of the essence here because if you wait too long to replace a totally cracked Heated mirror your cheaper option goes out the window ( No pun intended )LOL :), when the rain water ruins the heating element.
