Auto Parts: titan genorator, authorized service center, fuel feed

Question
i bought a titan genorator 8000 form somebody my dad knew, and it will start but soon after will shut off, the bowl for the carburator looks to small because when i put it back on, it hits the float? is that supposed to happen? and what size should the bowl supposed to be? thanks matt.

Answer
The bowl should not have a lot of room around it for the float.  But, when the engine is sitting level and the fuel is turned on, the float and bowl should not touch.  There is a very thick gasket on most of these little carburetors between the bowl and the body.  If someone removed that gasket or substituted a thinner one it would allow the float to touch the bottom of the bowl.  Make sure that you have the right gasket and that the float is properly adjusted.  Also make sure that the fuel feed is not obstructed in any way; that you're getting a good flow of fuel into the carburetor.  If it still gives you trouble you might want to find out what kind of engine is in it and then take it to an authorized service center.  While it's there get them to show you how to adjust the carb for speed and mixture.
