Auto Parts: tranny swap, torque converter, reputable service

Question
Can i use a 99 stratus transmission in my 98 cirrus.  Both cars are FWD and have the 2.5L v6.

I noticed the different connectors going to the transmission range sensor and cut the old wire connector and soldered the new (99) connector on.  I did not have a schematic but there was 9 wires on both and they were all the same colors.  Do you know if I made a mistake by assuming the wires would be in the same spot as the 98?  It would be nice to know if I need to redo it before I plug it in.

Also, is the 99 stratus torque converter going to be compatible with the 98 cirrus flywheel?  I think they are both offset.

Can I use the 98 cirrus TCM?  If I need to use the 99 TCM does it have the same wire connectors and the 98?

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.  I have not had much help as not to many people have your expertise

Answer
Hi Bryan,

My notes do not directly say those trans units could be interchanged by switching the harness connectors but I have seen it done before on other Mopar units. The issue you will run into is the ECM/PCM. The '98 is not compatible with the '99. The controller in the '98 does not have the program to run the newer transmission and vica-versa. I wouldn't doubt that it'll bolt-up, but even switching wire connectors, the two computers are not compatible in any way.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
