Question
no spark...the car was mis firing 2nd cylinder...mechanic hooked it up to dianostic machine, said it was ignition coil, bought new one, replaced it,....nothing.....after he looked at it, it still started and drove, the next day , it wouldnt start......no spark...even after i replaced the ign coil.nada....im in mexico and there are no qualified mechanics that I can find out here..what could be the problem?all the fuse are ok and I dont see any burnt wires or anything  broke or disconected near the coil assy....do you have any idea what this could be?

Answer
Hi Rich,

Sounds like it's an ignition module problem. If a coil wasn't firing and was replaced an STILL no spark, then the problem has to be forward of the coil. The only component forward of the coil would be the module.

Have it tested and probed for power BEFORE replacing it because you may also have a bad ignition switch and/or faulty ECM.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
