Auto Parts: Chevrolet engine Id, 67 camaro, pep boys

Question
Hi I recently purchased a 67 camaro  I know the engine is recent and I am attempting to find out the type and any other info about it The numbers on the pad are c5u134715 and vo120twh  There is a R2 on the head.  Any info is appreciated Ted

Answer
Hi Ted,

The numbers you listed here are ok, but the cast numbers from the left-rear of the block above the bell will be the ones to tell you exactly what you have.

The first number you gave was a partial VIN number which would have normally reflected the last nine digits of the VIN tag from the windshield to insure the engine and vehicle 'numbers match'. These numbers will be useless to you unless you plan to try and find the vehicle the engine was originally removed from, which I doubt.

The second series of numbers is called an engine assembly code and it breaks down as follows: (there are no 'O's' or 'Q's" used, only zeros)

V   = Flint Engine Plant
01  = Assembly month
20  = Assembly day
T   = Motor Division (Chevrolet truck)
WH  = 8-350 4BC 255 H.P. (I'm assuming 5.7L)

The 'WH' corresponds to one of the vehicles listed below.

(GMC Truck 1969 Series 1500 thru 3500, Conversion Cab, 4x2)
(GMC Forward Control 1969 Series 2500 & 3500)

So the engine you have was removed from a 1969 GMC truck or a 1969 GMC Forward Control (Box-truck).

As far as the cast on the heads, judging from the vehicle the mil was removed from, I'm not thinking you have anything special there. Not a 'fuelie' head or a 'double-humper' but you should check the chambers if you remove them to see if they are small cc. I don't think the 255 H.P. edition used the 64cc chamber heads, but you could get lucky.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
