Auto Parts: car problems, cold air intake, nissan sentra

Question
I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra, 2.0, manual trans. Recently i have being experiencing some idle problems. It seems that the only time my rpms fall off is after i put my car in neutral and they drop back down or if i am idle, every 20-25 seconds they drop off like the car is about to stall. Any ideas as to what may be causing this problem? I installed a cold air intake recently, 6 months ago... also i have changed the PCV valve and the Spark Plugs to no result. Please Help!

Answer
Hi Justin,

Check the MAF sensor and any DTC's stored in the computer. Sounds like an EGR problem, but if you have a CAI installed, I'd put money on the issue being the MAF sensor which you'll probably find you'll have to replace about every six-months for as long as you have the CAI installed. For my money, I'd scrap that CAI system as they don't help nearly as much as they hurt performance and fuel economy.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
