Auto Parts: Nissan Frontier timing set, powertrain control module, nissan frontier

Question
Can you please tell me how to check the ignition timing on a 2001 Nissan Frontier 2.4 liter four cylinder?  I have a timing light. I have been told that I am to align the 3rd mark from the right on the pulley with the pointer that comes off the engine. I believe I see the marks and the pointer but is this the correct mark? There are no numbers on them. I have also found out to do this I need to disable the PCM before I start. How do I do this? Until I can get it right I'm going to have to set it by ear. Right now the distributor is adjusted all the way to one side and I strongly suspect it isnt correct. Not getting any pinging though.

Answer
Hi Paul,

Your ignition system should be able to adjust itself to a certain degree as long as you get the distributor positioned close to the actual setting. Unfortunately you need a scan-tool to disable the powertrain control module. You CAN buy a small plug that fits into the distributor connector that performs the same function, but I am not sure where one would go about locating one, maybe a local auto parts store.

Also, unfortunately I do not have specs for that ignition system settings.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
