Auto Parts: lugnut lock, chrysler products, hub cap

Question
my dad wants me to track down this sort of lugnut lock but it is not the normal type they sell now. he has one that is sort of cone shaped and actually fits over a lugnut, you only need one for the whole wheel. you have to have a special key in which the lock and key are both made of metal and each key that everyone has has a special design on it like no one elses so you have to have the key that came with it to get it off.the key is flat on the end with the design cut into it where it goes into the same design on the locking mechanism. i have tried to find it online to order him some but cannot find it. if you know what these are called or where i can get some i would really appreciate it. thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
Hi Kim,

The only thing I can think of that is close to what you describe is a locking hubcap which mounts using three of the existing lug nuts and that piece is covered by a disk with a unique stamped-steel 'key' designed bolt. Then the bolt is covered by an even smaller cover to make it look like there is no lock present. Not all manufacturers used locking hub cap designs. Cadillac, and most GM's as well as allot of mid-90's Chrysler products is all I can think of right now.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
