Auto Parts: ford fuel sending unit, fuel level sender, resistance value

Question
I have an 85 mustang with almost all 87 parts bolted on the car can anyone tell me the ohm reading on the fuel level sender for an 85 and 87.  I need to replace it but dont want to have to drop the tank any more than I have to.

                   Thank you

Answer
Hi Jeremy,

The readings, in ohms, is going to be from 0 to infinity. The resistance value at full is 0ohm and empty is infinity, everywhere in between is where the sender is 'read' by the constant voltage regulator chip on the back of your cluster. This fluctuating resistance value is averaged by the chip and the data is sent to the gage for you to see. There are NO exact readings with the exception of full (open) and empty (closed). All other values are determined by the CVR chip on-the-fly based on prior readings.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
