the plug wire thing broke.. i put wat was left of it back on the distributor
module and when i cranked the car wouldnt start then a friend who was with
me at the time noticed that the wire sparked and smoked came out of it... i
believe i short circuited... my question is whats the name of the wire? and if
thats even the problem? i would really appreciate it if you reply thanks...

Answer
Hi Benjamin,

If you accidentally fried the module, the entire distributor is probably junk.

If I'm thinking correctly, those distributors have a built-in coil. There were two different styles though, a Hitachi and a HAP brand. I'm pretty sure in either case the coil and module are married to each other so one will not work without the other and replacing one of them won't fix the problem because a module from one distributor WON'T work with a coil from another one. The two pieces are number-matched unless you buy a NEW module in which case they learn the resistance value of the OLD coil as soon as you plug them in and then THAT module cannot be put into any other distributor or attached to another coil as it will not operate it properly.

Your best bet is to go to your local USED auto parts dealer (or call us) and get a new (used) distributor assembly. It'll probably be less expensive than trying to replace the module or module harness.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
