Auto Parts: Air con lol, r 134a, hyundai excel

Question
Hey umm i was wondering if you could help me out. Do you think you would know an estimated price on how much it would cost to GET and INSTALL air-con into my 1996 Hyundai Excel X3 Sprint??? or if its even possible??? it would be appreciated:D

Answer
Hi Claudia,

Haha. Good one. Too bad Hyundai stopped producing Excel's in 1994.

However, if your vehicle DID exist and was not originally equipped with A/C, you would be better off buying a new vehicle that is. There are way too many parts that would need to be added, replaced in order to get A/C into your vehicle.

If you are prepared to replace the heat exchange box ($250), replace the radiator with a dual-core that is required once you install a new condenser in front of it (Rad: $100, Cond: $100), add a compressor and idler pulley as well as a new drive belt (comp: $165, idler: $80, belt: $15) an evaporator core, new heater core, drier, accumulator and all the hoses and wiring (Evap: $75, h-core: $80, drier: $40, drier: $50, hoses: $300) and 3-1/2 pounds of R-134a and oil charge (refrigerant: $45) then there is your list. None of these estimates include labor and should only be used for reference as the vehicle the parts are searched for does not exist. This job would probably take about 15 hours to complete and at an average of $65/hour for mechanical repairs so you are looking at spending $2000.00 or more just adding A/C to an older vehicle. Not worth it.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information is helpful to you.
