Car Alarms: 1998 Toyota Avalon TDS system dash light solid red, theft deterrent system, toyota avalon

Question
I have a 1998 Toyota Avalon with the TDS (Theft Deterrent System), presumably installed by the dealer.  Recently, the red dash light started staying on constantly.  I can lock and unlock the doors from the three-button fob just fine but the system doesn't arm.  Starting is not a problem and the alarm is not sounding.  I've tried changing it to valet setting but that didn't help.

Any ideas?  Thank you

Answer
Hmmmm,
Make sure you do the procedure correctly.
Might have missed a step:

PUT IGNITION KEY IN IGNITION,
KEY ON TO JUST BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD VALET SWITCH
UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE
FROM THE ALARM.

KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR. THEN ARM IT.
SHOULD NOW CHIRP AND FLASH THE LIGHTS.

I hope this solved it for you.
If not. look forward to removal/replacement
or repair.
