Car Alarms: 2005 corolla factory installed security system, crime stoppers unit, toyota alarm

Question
Last year I bought a used 2005 Corolla S, it came with the little Toyota key chain remote and the installed 'security system'.  It opens & locks the doors too.  A few months later the alarm started going off in the middle of the nite / day, rain or shine. CAr-horn honking / flashers blinking.

My car got recalled last fall for some unrelated problem, and while it was at Toyota I asked them to adjust the sensitivity of the alarm.  They gave me the car back saying it was a 3rd party alarm & they couldnt touch it.  The kid even told me it was a Viper.  Took it to an alarm shop and they said (and showed me) that there was no 3rd party alarm installed.  So it looks to me like Toyota service didnt wanna deal w/ it & lied to me.

I asked the alarm shop to disconnect the original toyota system and install a new separate system, which they did (a crime-stoppers unit).  But the next day the original Toyota alarm went off again. It stops when I hit the unlock button on the new alarm remote. it goes off 1-2x / day, sometimes more, sometimes not for a week.

I've had it back in the shop a few times trying to fix it & they seem stumped.  They said its more complicated because of the original Toyota system being connected to an ignition killing device in case of break-in etc.

I dont trust going back to Toyota, having also read online customer reviews of the dealerships in the area that describe similar disappointments, but I dont think the alarm shop knows what to do either.  They replaced the new alarm brain & that did not change anything.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks
