Car Alarms: 2004 Ford Escape Alarm, ford escape xlt, horn sound

I have a 2004 Ford Escape XLT and about a week ago I started having problems with the alarm. Usually, on the remote..if I press the lock button once...you can hear the doors lock...and if I pressed it again the horn would sound/chirp once and the headlights would flash indicating that the car was locked and the alarm was set. Now when I press the lock button on the remote once it still does lock the car but when I press it the second time to hear the horn sound and see the lights flash, nothing happens. Thoughts?
