Car Alarms: Car Alarm, sound doors, mitsubishi lancer

Mitsubishi Lancer 2004.

Previous owner unknown to me lost the remote for alarm.
The alarm is currently disconnected in some way.
(No flashing lights, no sound, doors do not automatically lock some stuff I noticed other Mitsubishi's do.)

How can I reconnect the alarm, where do I check how it was disconnected?
I can order the remote from the dealers.

(The car did come with an alarm when it was new. verified by dealers.)
