Car Alarms: 2002 ford explorer, alarmtek, explorer question

Question
QUESTION: wife locked keys in truck  over night
opened truck with spare keys now truck will not start
and theft alarm going off     what do I do

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY or, ANTI-THEFT" light
in the dash flashing?

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: just theft alarm on dashboard
no flashing lights or noise
keys turn and nothing happens

Answer
Then it's likely you will need Ford to reset the "PATS"
system in your Explorer. There is no reset button or switch
you could use on your own if the passive anti theft transponder
is in long tamper mode. That's a Ford proprietary data issue.

If it was after market, then we could likely come up
with a way around it. Not so much if it's a Ford
ignition immobilizer. Sorry bout that.
