Car Alarms: 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback car alarm gone crazy..., subaru legacy outback, valet mode

Question
QUESTION: I have a 98 legacy outback with the factory alarm/keyless entry installed about 2 years ago the key ring on the clicker broke so I have not used the alarm since. For a while I had a problem very randomly but not often where I would turn the key and the car would not even attempt to start, if I waited 20-30 seconds and tried again, it always worked. Last week the same thing happened but this time it didn't start up. Luckily I was next to an auto shop who happily tested my battery to find it was only putting out 4.5 volts, after a longer test, which showed my battery had gone bad, I purchased a new battery and installed it. I drove my car home and parked it. A few minutes later my roommate gave me a ride to a buddies house where we hung out for the evening. Apparently during that time my car alarm was going off randomly for about 6-7 hours. When I got home I could not figure out how to get it to stop, the remote wasn't working and neither was the button below the dash, the only way to stop it was to turn on the car. I ended up disconnected the main harness from the control unit which stopped the alarm. In the morning I tried putting the car in valet mode, which seemed to work until I arrived at work and before I could get the key out of the ignition the alarm was going off again. Since then I have tried everything I can think of, but the real issue is there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when the alarm goes off. Some nights I'll leave the control unit plugged in and it will be fine throughout the night, others it will go off after a few hours, sometimes it will go 12 hours before going off. No one at the dealership has any ideas and the only thing I can think to do is replace the control unit, but that is $220, which is ridiculous. I would happily leave the alarm disabled, as I never used it before, however the alarm has a starter interrupt built in and with the box unplugged the car wont start. ANY help is greatly appreciated!

The control unit part number is H7110AS001 if that helps any...

ANSWER: Hmmmm, Likely to be factory if it's the car's own horn honking.
However, if it's a siren and flashing lights, it's after market.

Ok, here's what I know...

Normally, putting the key in the drivers side door lock,
turning to the left, then to the right all the way
will unlock and disarm/reset the "OEM factory"
alarm system.

However, if your system is after market:

The Parking Lights Would Flash, A siren Is Going Off,
An LED Is Flashing As Well, and You May Have A Shock/Impact
sensor set Too High Too. Try The Following Procedure
To Disarm/Disable It.

To start with, you can identify which after market
system you have by using the FCC. ID.# found
on the back of each remote. Try a site
like WWW.REMOTES4SALE.COM
to track down the one you have in your hand.

Now let's put the system into override mode.

As far as the valet/override button, it's a hidden
device-switch, a little spring loaded micro button,
red or black possibly and is probably down under
the dash area, near your knee/leg. In some
remote start/alarm combos, the antenna on the window
glass will also have an override/valet button.
Older systems will have a flip type toggle switch.

When you locate the button or switch,
turn on the ignition key, press and hold
in the button until the alarm chirps 1 time
(for toggle types, key on, flip switch in the
opposite direction, then key off)

This should over ride the system, and only the
keyless entry part, if installed, would still be
operating.

You would get a single chirp to confirm from the siren.
The LED (light emitting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid. This is valet/override/reset.
This should correct any issues like starter disable,
or anti-hijack. Your keyless entry, if installed,
will still be operable. The have it inspected for the
falsing issues you are experience at a local shop.

You would repeat the same steps to toggle
back into user mode.

That should do it for 90% of the after market alarms
out there.

And in GM vehicles, the PASSLOCK system may be engaged.
See your options at www.GMPASSLOCK.com for this eventuality.

If however, yours is a "FACTORY" or, OEM
(original Equipment Manufacturer) "alarm/security" system,
then the disabling procedure info for any given
specific vehicle is now deemed to be too sensitive to
publish here (as suggested by ALLEXPERTS administration.!).

So, to comply, as of March,22 08, this service is no longer
part of the volunteer information I can offer for free here at
ALLEXPERTS.com . Specific OEM/FACTORY alarm disarm/disabling
info is now available ONLY at the WIREWERX.

My installation wiring charts provide the proper wire colors,
polarities, and locations to install a keyless entry,
remote start or, car alarm system into any given vehicle,
or if just trying to disarm/disable your factory/OEM system,
there is a link there to get a tutorial on how to do it yourself
for only $4.99.

I hope you can appreciate the legal reasons behind not
providing this info any longer to just anyone who asks
for general consumption. By doing it this way, I'll
get a record of payment and a name/email address as
a stop gap to help prevent any unauthorized disabling of
your system or anyone else's, by a would be car thief!

Please go to the WIREWERX so I can get you the
info you require to fix your situation.

Good luck with this issue.

QUESTION: Just to clarify it is a Subaru factory alarm, and when I try to put it in valet mode, it chirps 3 times but doesn't change anything.

ANSWER: "factory alarms" do not have valet switches or chirp.

Looks factory to me, but who knows... it has a valet button  and I guess by chirp I mean a very quick short honk...

Answer
A Relabled Rebel Alarm I think.
Put in at the dealer when customer opts for security.
(Ford uses Code Alarm)

If valet is the same,
it's key on, press and hold valet button
until alarm resets. (if toggle type, key
on, flip the switch, key off.

Car would start and the alarm would by in override.

repeat valet steps to reset.
