Car Alarms: avital valet switch, alarmtek, starter systems

Question
I have just recently bought a 1992 BMW which has the avital security system on it, however we have no documentation for the system so have no idea what model it is.  Yesterday after a heavy rain shower i couldn't disarm the system to be able to start the car.  How do i switch the system off i think i need to find the valet switch where would you expect this to be located???
