Car Alarms: Ford Anti-Theft System, negative battery cable, 12 volt

Question
I have a 96 Ford Explorer with a Ford 400 anti-theft system.  I have owned this vehicle for about 4 years and i have had nothing but trouble with the anti theft.  Since I have owned it I have had to push the button under the dash to start it.  It will start fine for a few months and then it goes haywire.  Right now it will not start and I can't figure it out, as usully I can screw with it and will start.  When I turn on the key the radio and everything comes on but as soon as I go to start it's like the bsttery goes dead. I can remove the negative battery cable and reset it and it will do it again.  Sometimes it takes a few times of trying to start it for the power to go out but even then the engine does not turn over.  The last time this happened I took the dash apart and got to the module and after screwing with and having no idea what I did it started fine for six months.  This time I can't get it to start.  I need help on what I can do to fix this or disable the anti-theft for good.  Disabling it is what I am really interested in doing, so I hope that you can give me some information on disabling it.  The ford 400 is not a PATS system right?  I am thinking that is an aftermarket.
