Car Alarms: conlog alarm/immobiliser, keyswitch, good luck

Question
I have a vehicle which was fitted with a Conlog alarm/immobiliser when it was new over 10 years ago, I now own the vehicle and would like to disable the alarm - we only have one fob for it and it's not reliable.  There's a keyswitch on the alarm unit itself, and I have the key for that.  However, turning the switch the other way to where it is makes the alarm go off.  There's also a socket inside the car into which the fob can be put, which is as I understand it for those occasions when the fob won't work.

Any idea if the system can be turned off?  If so, I would be pleased to hear how.  If not I'm going to have to remove it which is a lot more work!
