Car Alarms: Automate Model 435, designtech, avital

Question
I bought my son a used car that has a Automate 435 but it did not come with any remote or instructions. His original keyless entry broke and I bought him a new one which we can not program to unlock or lock the doors. A tech said it was the alarm system preventing it. I tried to unplug all the wires to the black automate box and it still will not reprogram, any suggestions?
